Should You Be Embracing the "Hot Girl Walk" In Pregnancy & Postpartum?

“Hot Girl Walks” have been a trend for a while, but this summer, they really started taking off. But what are they? Should you be doing it during pregnancy and postpartum? We’re getting into it all.

What is the Hot Girl Walk?

Mia Lind, a TikTok content creator invented the Hot Girl Walk, and she’s described it as “a four-mile outdoor walk where you can only think about three things: things you’re grateful for, your goals, and how you want to achieve them and how hot you are.” Now, the hashtag #hotgirlwalk has 910.8 million views on TikTok…

Whilst Lind suggests 4 miles for your Hot Girl Walk – which can seem like a lot especially if you’re pregnant or have your little one in tow – we recommend getting in anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour of walking. After all, it’s all about getting fresh air and getting your steps in and creating some positive thinking space.

Is the Hot Girl Walk empowering?

It can be! If you embrace the ethos behind it. The Hot Girl Walk trend encourages women to feel confident in their own skin, fostering a positive mindset that extends beyond physical appearance by practicing self-assurance and self-compassion.

Body positivity and self-love in pregnancy and postpartum

Pregnancy and the postpartum period bring about significant changes in your body. These changes, while natural and necessary, can sometimes lead to feelings of insecurity and self-doubt.

During pregnancy, the body changes so quickly that it can leave expectant mothers with mixed feelings on body image and self-esteem. If you love the way your bump looks and makes you feel — that's amazing. Pregnancy is an incredible feat of the female body, and we hope it makes you feel strong and sexy.

But pregnancy also takes a toll on the body and can come with some not-so-fun symptoms and uncomfortable days. With that in mind, there is absolutely nothing wrong with not loving every single thing about your changing pregnancy body. It’s normal to have days where you have to work for body confidence. It doesn’t always come naturally, no matter who you are.

Taking a Hot Girl Walk is just one way to find some time to show gratitude for your body and foster some self-esteem.

The battle for body confidence is very real for new mothers too, but it’s important to remember that pregnancy and postpartum are not permanent states. By nature, they are periods of change. And change can be hard, especially when it involves learning how to live in a body that feels so different from what we’re used to.
