"Trust Your Body": Baby2Body Mamas Share Their Conception Journeys
Have you heard the news? We've been busy building our brand new Trying to Conceive Program on the app, and we're seriously excited about it! We usually share Baby2Body mamas' pregnancy and new motherhood experiences here on the blog, but as we expand our program offerings, we're thrilled to share more TTC (trying to conceive) stories with you.
As much as every pregnancy is different, every TTC journey is very different (as many of you probably know!). Trying for a baby is an exciting, confusing, and often nerve-racking experience, and we want you to know that if you're feeling overwhelmed on your journey to pregnancy: you. are. not. alone. The road to conception is winding, and there are some major ups and downs that we all experience.
We're sharing TTC stories from some Baby2Body mamas because we want you to know that while everyone's experience is different, you have an entire Baby2Body family of women who can understand and empathize with all the highs and all the lows you may be navigating. We want you all to know that everything that you're feeling and going through at this time is valid. Trying for a baby is such an exciting experience, but it can also be really hard, and there are a lot of things that may feel out of your control. That's why we created the Trying to Conceive Program—to give you all of the information, guidance, and support you need to get your body ready for baby and take charge on the healthy lifestyle factors that are in your control.
So, we'll be here with all the fitness, nutrition, and wellbeing guidance you need -- but nothing beats some good old-fashioned advice from other women. Read on to learn about their TTC experiences and what advice these mamas would give to other women who are trying for a baby.
Danielle: "I became very conscious of my health."
Our journey to conceive took roughly a year - mostly because we weren’t trying seriously until the last few months. Once we started tracking ovulation, temperature, and cervical fluids it took about 3 months. I have a thyroid condition so I had started monitoring my temp and cycles a few years ago, and started prenatal [vitamins] about 8 months before we conceived. I became very conscious of my health - eating and exercise, as well as sleep.
Caroline: "Have fun with sex."
My partner was working away for 4 weeks at a time, so we rarely hit [peak] ovulation time. I wish I had known how small the window actually is, and that it takes time for the hormones to get back to normal after being on the pill for a long time. We kept up good habits like eating healthy and keeping physically fit, and most importantly to just have fun with sex and do it when we felt like it instead of making it into a chore.
Sabrina: "I wish I'd trusted my gut."
This pregnancy was a complete shock. We didn’t think it would go this far or that it was possible. We had two miscarriages last year, and we were told that I had an auto immune disorder that was attacking my pregnancies.
I always had a feeling that something was off but out of fear of sounding silly I never brought it up. My body didn’t feel normal, the conceiving process was hard, and I knew something was wrong. I wish I trusted my gut more.
Christina: "It hasn't been a smooth road."
I was diagnosed with leukemia at 22 and underwent rigorous treatment. It was unclear whether or not I would be able to conceive after that, but I have so far been blessed with an amazing four year old boy and a baby girl! It hasn’t been a smooth road. My cycles were too short to be able to conceive my current pregnancy, and once we did conceive, we lost her twin sister early on. We've tried to keep a healthy perspective. Keep your mind off the outcome and just take each day as it comes, and to realize that certain things are just out of our control.
Brooke: "Trust your body."
I was diagnosed with PCOS at 18. Before our wedding, I had my IUD taken out and tried give myself grace to regulate my new, non-birth control affected, cycle. The doctors said that it would take some time getting pregnant, as my history also included a miscarriage. Little did I know - BAM! Pregnant on our wedding night. I didn’t think it would happen so soon. Trust your body, eat well, and have a healthy lifestyle.
Sara: "It was the best decision."
When I was 9 weeks, we lost our baby. It was really hard for us, and I wish I'd known just how common gestational losses are. Once I had my period back, we started trying again. Even though I didn’t have any fertility issues, I decided to go to a fertility specialist who helped me both mentally and emotionally. It was the best decision I made!
We hope these stories help you remember that every path to pregnancy and motherhood is different, and to remind you that the Baby2Body community is here for every mama: those who are currently expecting, those who have kiddos at home, those who have lost their little ones, and mamas in waiting.
