5 Banana "Nice" Cream Recipes for Summer

We're hitting the peak of summer heat, which means that cold, refreshing treats are more tempting than ever. And we're here to tell you: enjoy them! After all, it is National Ice Cream Day.

There's nothing wrong with sinking your spoon into a pint of Ben & Jerry's, but sometimes, you just don't want all that much sugar in the evenings (nor do you want your kids to!) That's where banana "nice" cream comes in. We know, it sounds kind of out there, but the texture and flavor once it's blended are seriously impressive. Call it your warm-weather method of using up those spotty bananas on your counter (see ya in September, banana bread!).

Never made banana ice cream before? Here's how it works:

  1. Once your bananas are spotty and ripe, peel and chop them into 1-inch chunks. Place them in a reusable container and freeze.

  2. When you're ready to make your ice cream, take the frozen banana chunks out of the freezer and let them thaw for 10 minutes or so (this will make your life way easier!)

  3. Blend in a high-speed blender or food processor. The process is pretty hands-on, so be prepared for lots of pulsing the mixture and scraping the sides. Don't worry, it's worth it!

  4. If you're having trouble getting your mixture going, add a splash of liquid.
