11 Products For Postpartum Care (That You Won’t Regret Buying)

Did you know the busiest time of year for births is late August to mid-September? A quick check of the calendar reminds us that the holiday season is the most wonderful time of year after all — at least when it comes to baby-making.

Here we are, just about 9 months after Christmas and New Years’ celebrations, and we wanted to send some preemptive congratulations to all the mamas welcoming little ones in the coming weeks! Since it’s a popular time for births, that also means many of you are (or will soon be) navigating postpartum care and recovery. We have so many resources on the app to support you in those early weeks after birth — including gentle stretches and light exercises, our program on building a self-care tool kit for motherhood, and meal plans to make sure you are getting the nutrition you need.

However, there are some products that can truly make your postpartum recovery more comfortable, and we want to make sure you know about them! We turned to our incredible community and asked what items helped make their post-birth days easier, so you can get recommendations direct from other mothers. We took the hundreds of responses that came in and boiled it down to the top 11 items that so many women swear by (and that we love, too!).

11 postpartum care products that you won’t regret buying

It’s one of the oldest tricks in the book, and it’s because it works! Lanolin cream is a natural emollient (i.e. skin softener) that is hypoallergenic and non-toxic to mom and baby, making it safe for daily use. It works wonders on sore, dry, and cracked nipples, which can be common for women who are breastfeeding.

Lanolin should be avoided by anyone with a known wool allergy.

You can keep your lady bits lotsa bits happier with cooling maxi pads after a vaginal delivery. Frida mom was the number one recommended brand for developing absorbent, soft, and easy-to-use ice maxi pads.

A good set of easy-access pajamas (not for that nighttime activity) was highly recommended by nursing mamas in our community. Button-down varieties definitely came out on top, and we love this super-soft, bamboo set that was designed for mothers, by mothers.

We had to go with the original Italian-made silver nipple protectors, which offer an alternative to lanolin cream. They are designed to fit over your nipples and provide soothing benefits as real silver has anti-inflammatory benefits as well as being antimicrobial, antifungal, and antibacterial.

Simple hair accessories, especially headbands, were a surprising “must-have” on many of our community’s postpartum care lists. We love the spa headbands by Kitsch for a quick way to pull your hair back off your face without damaging your locks. And if you can close your eyes and pretend you’re actually at a spa for at least 5 seconds, that’s a win too.

Silicone breast pump by Haakaa, $13

If you choose to pump, it’s gotta be Haakaa. Or at least, so our community says. So many women reached out who swear by Haakka products, and their pump is a global fan-favorite for its simplicity, ease of use, and effectiveness.

We’ve got to give it to Frida Mom again for delivering on postpartum care products made with mamas in mind. In those early days and weeks don’t even bother with real underwear, as chances are you’ll toss it anyway. Keep it soft, stretchy, and breathable with these disposable boyshorts.

A few mothers reached out saying that one-touch night lights were a small but meaningful lifesaver for late-night feedings with baby. There are definitely more affordable options on the market, but we love the versatility of this night light that also includes time to rise and sound machine effects that are made with newborn sleep in mind.

We were so glad to see reusable water bottles mentioned as a postpartum care must-have. Hydration needs are still really high in postpartum, and especially if you are breastfeeding. A large water bottle with a straw will make it so much easier to get the fluids you need each day.

There are so many creams, lotions, and potions on the market targeting postpartum skincare, from dryness to stretchmarks. But at the end of the day, most of our community said they swear by good old-fashioned cocoa butter. Fun fact: Melinda, our CEO & founder, does too!

The Boppy original nursing pillow was also a firm favorite amongst our community. Mamas loved it for its versatility of use over baby’s first year, and the ergonomic support it provided for easier nursing and feeding.

If you’re just entering into your postpartum days, we’re sending you our best wishes and plenty of healthy energy!
