A recipe for pregnancy nausea: Stomach Soothing Popsicles

Time: 10 minutes + chill time
Supplies: Molds, heatproof bowl, small pot, sieve

Thanks to the ginger and mint in this recipe, these stomach soothing popsicles are great to calm nausea. They’re also rich in Vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant that is important for fighting infections and keeping your skin healthy.

These popsicles will require some time to chill and set, but it’s so easy to batch prepare them and keep them in your freezer for quick snacking later on — perfect for the summer heat too!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 10 fresh mint leaves

  • 2 tsp fresh ginger root, peeled and chopped

  • 5 medium unwaxed limes, washed

  • 120 mL (1/2 cup) honey or agave nectar

  • 240 mL (1 cup) water

  • 480-710 mL (2-3 cups) water for icy popsicles OR 480-710 mL (2-3 cups) coconut milk for creamy popsicles

Here’s how to make it:

  1. Soften the limes by rolling them back and forth over the counter using the palm of your hand.

  2. Cut the limes in half and juice with a juicer or by hand. Keep the rinds.

  3. Put the rinds and juice into a large heatproof bowl.

  4. Bring 240 mL (1 cup) water to boil and add the honey or agave nectar, stir until dissolved. Add the mint leaves and ginger, and remove from heat. Pour the syrup over lime juice and rinds. Leave to cool.

  5. Remove the lime rinds, mint leaves, and ginger from the mixture by pouring the syrup through a sieve and into a large bowl.

  6. Add 480-710 mL (2-3 cups) water or coconut milk (depending on if you want icy or creamy popsicles) to the syrup and stir well.

  7. Pour into popsicle molds following the manufacturer’s instructions for sealing molds and freezing time.

  8. Once frozen, snack on a popsicle to ease nausea or just as a light refreshing afternoon snack!
