April has finally arrived! But it's always one of those months where you never know what way the weather will go; the tulips are already blooming but April showers can come in full force. With all the temperature changes and shifting of seasons, your skin can really suffer.

In recent months, the term "Everything Shower" has been popping up all over social media, particularly on TikTok. But what exactly is an Everything Shower, and why has it become such a popular self-care routine? We're taking a closer look at this trend and exploring some of the reasons why it's taking the internet by storm. We’re also sharing our top 5 homemade facial scrubs to use in your everything shower.

What is an everything shower?

First, let's define what an Everything Shower is. Simply put, it's a shower that's focused on providing a full sensory experience. It's not just about getting clean - it's about indulging in all the different sensations that can make a shower feel luxurious and rejuvenating.

So, what does an Everything Shower entail?

Here are a few of the key components of the Everything Shower:

  • Aromatherapy: Adding essential oils or shower steamers to your shower can help create a relaxing atmosphere and promote a sense of calm.

  • Music or white noise: Playing your favorite tunes or some calming sounds can help you tune out distractions and focus on the present moment.

  • Skincare: Taking the time to exfoliate, cleanse, and moisturize your skin can leave you feeling refreshed and glowing.

  • Haircare: Using a hair mask or deep conditioner during your shower can help nourish and repair your locks.

  • Massaging showerhead: Investing in a showerhead with different massage settings can help ease tension in your muscles and leave you feeling invigorated.

  • Temperature contrast: Alternating between hot and cold water can help improve circulation and boost your energy levels.

So, why has the Everything Shower become such a viral sensation?

Here are a few possible reasons that the Everything Shower is taking TikTok by storm:

  1. It's an easy way to prioritize self-care: With so many demands on our time and energy, it can be tough to carve out space for self-care. The Everything Shower offers a way to indulge in a bit of luxury without having to set aside a lot of extra time.

  2. It's customizable: Everyone's idea of the perfect shower will be different, and that's part of what makes the Everything Shower so appealing. You can tailor your shower experience to your own preferences and needs, whether that means focusing on skincare, music, or temperature contrast.

  3. It's accessible: Unlike some self-care practices that require expensive equipment or specialized knowledge, the Everything Shower is something that anyone can do. You don't need any special skills or tools - just a shower and a willingness to experiment.

Is the Everything Shower for everyone?

For those who do have the time and resources to try it out, the Everything Shower can be a fun and refreshing addition to their self-care routine. And with so many people sharing their own takes on the trend on social media, there's no shortage of inspiration for those looking to create their own perfect shower experience.

5 homemade face & body scrubs for your everything shower

Rather than pointing you to pricy products and lengthy skincare regimens we've pulled together a collection of homemade facial and body scrubs using natural ingredients you'd have on hand and know will be safe and soothing for your skin during your everything shower.

We recommend doing these scrubs once or twice a week for proper exfoliation. It will help rid your skin of impurities and dead skin to unclog pores, brighten your complexion and soften your skin texture so you can get your glow on.

1. Bye-Bye-Blackheads Lemon Scrub

Lemon’s antibacterial and astringent properties help to tighten the pores of the skin to reduce the appearance of blackheads. Combining this scrub with sugar will help you exfoliate at the same time, removing debris and dead skin cells.

Mix the following:

  • Juice from 1 lemon

  • 1 TBSP olive oil

  • 2 tsp pink Himalayan sea salt

How to use it:

  • Apply the scrub on the areas to be treated and allow it to rest for a few minutes.

  • Make sure to use gentle motions, so as to not irritate your skin too much.

  • Rinse off with warm water and a clean washcloth.

2. Almond-Honey Scrub for Sensitive Skin

This scrub calls for almond oil, which is rich in Vitamin E that's necessary for keeping skin healthy, and can even protect against sun damage. Honey is one of our go-to's for all-natural skincare due to its antibacterial properties, high levels of antioxidants, and hydrating capabilities. For sensitive skin, this scrub is a savior.

Mix the following:

  • 1 TBSP almond oil

  • 1 TBSP manuka honey

  • 2 tsp brown sugar

How to use:

  • Apply to your face using gentle, circular, and upwards motion.

  • Let sit for 15 minutes before rinsing off with warm water and doing a final splash of cool water before patting your face dry.

3. Detoxifying Cacao Scrub

The skin of our face is constantly under attack from airborne pollutants. It may sound dramatic, but it's so good to have a detoxifying scrub on hand for a weekly treatment to help combat all those environmental toxins we face. The antioxidants in the cocoa will help detox, and the yogurt will provide calming relief.

Mix the following:

  • 1 TBSP Greek yogurt

  • 2 tsp coconut oil

  • 1 TBSP cacao powder

How to use:

  • Once thoroughly mixed, scrub into the face and then let sit as a mask for up to 20 minutes.

  • Rinse off with warm water and pat dry.

4. Simple Salt Scrub

The high mineral content of this scrub makes it an excellent antiseptic and toning treatment to help soften your skin. It's so simple to make, we guarantee you'll have these ingredients on hand. Make sure to not use this on delicate areas of the body such as the face, neck, or décolletage.

Mix the following:

  • 1/2 cup coconut oil

  • 1 cup coarse sea salt

How to use:

  • Apply the mixture using circular massages paying special attention to rougher areas, such as knees, elbows, and soles of the feet.

  • If you have sensitive skin, opt for a fine sea salt for gentler exfoliation. You can also use a fine salt scrub variation on naturally softer parts of your body such as your arms, legs, back, and abdomen.

5. Anti Stretch Marks Coffee Scrub

Coffee grounds, applied to the skin, have long been used in the reduction of cellulite and stretch marks. While it's not a guaranteed method, the caffeine in the coffee grounds is believed to increase blood flow to help even tone and texture. If you're going to toss the grounds anyway, it's worth a shot to see what else your coffee can do for you.

Mix the following:

  • 1/2 cup olive oil

  • 1/2 cup used coffee grounds

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

How to use:

  • This can get messy so we recommend applying the scrub while showering!

  • Halfway through your shower, turn off the water so you can apply the mixture onto damp skin.

  • Apply in gentle circular movements, focusing on areas of concern. Let soak in for 5 minutes, and then wash off.
